Thursday 30th May
Fabulous falcons (Children’s holiday event for 8 – 12 year olds)
Did you know that peregrine falcons can fly at over 200mph? Discover amazing facts about the Avon Gorge’s fastest and most beautiful predator and have lots of fun in our pigeon-peregrine game. In the afternoon create your own fabulous falcon kite.
10.00am – 3.30pm £8.50 per child
Children will need to bring their own packed lunch.

Friday 17th and Saturday 18th May
Birdsong on the Downs
Learn how to identify birds from their song with Ed Drewitt. Enjoy a multimedia introduction to the birds you’re likely to see and hear on the Friday evening, followed by a morning walk to identify birds ‘in the field’.

Saturday 29th June
Paper and petals
Learn to craft your own handmade paper with artist Helen Adshead. We’ll visit the Downs magical meadows to learn about the plants and gather seeds and flowers to use in our paper making workshop.
10.00am – 3.30pm £25.00 (includes materials).

Sunday 12th May
Wild tales on wheels! (Storytelling bus top tour)
Join professional storyteller Martin Maudsley for a unique storytelling tour of the Avon Gorge and Downs. From a lofty perch aboard the City Sightseeing bus you’ll hear a menagerie of wild tales and furry fables bringing the local landscape to life with feuding giants, cunning creatures and sacred trees.
2.00pm – 4.00pm £9.50 adults £5.50 kids
Suitable for adults and children.
Meet around the corner from the Zoo's main entrance on College Road. The bus leaves promptly at 2pm so don't be late!
Saturday 1st June
Whitebeam wander
The Avon Gorge is particularly famous for its whitebeam trees, some of which grow nowhere else in the world. On this Saturday afternoon stroll in Leigh Woods, botanist Libby Houston will introduce you to a range of these rare trees.

Saturday 8th June
Bristol99 on the Downs tree walk
From hawthorns to hollies and whitebeams to walnuts, the Downs are home to a rich variety of trees. Join Richard Bland from the Friends of the Downs and Avon Gorge on a special walk to learn how to identify trees.
This event is part of Bristol99 - a project that gives the public the chance to discover the natural world in their own neighbourhood, with exciting wildlife events being held across the city’s 99 best sites for nature.
10.30am - 12.30pm FREE but booking is essential as places are limited!
Saturday 8th June
Bristol99 on the Downs butterfly walk
Discover how to identify butterflies on this gentle stroll with members of the Friends of the Downs and Avon Gorge. Learn about the FODAG butterfly recording scheme and see how many of these lovely insects you can spot.

Meadow medicine
Meander through the meadows on the Downs with herbalist Max Drake. Discover a whole host of rustic remedies and the traditional, medicinal uses of the plants that grow here.

Get to grips with grasses
Foxed by fox-tails? Confused by quaking grasses? Lost in Yorkshire fog? Then you need an evening learning to identify grasses on the Downs with Libby Houston!
